Prince Edward Island:
Backshore: TC-TR Lighter colored sand.
Foreshore: MR-ML Foreshore and backshore are normally bordered by dark colored sand with organic matter deposit. Darker colored sand next to the water.
Berm: ML Mound of sand with vegetation growth.
New Brunswick:
Backshore: ML, MC, TC, TL bordered by organic matter deposited by tidal changes up to the thin line of trees nearest to the water.
Foreshore: MC, BC, MR, BR beach exposed to water during tidal changes. From the water to the line of dark colored organic deposit.
Berm: MC-TR marked from the water edge to the nearest line of trees.
Berm crest: MC-TR where the line off trees nearest to the water sprouted.
Cape Cod:
Backshore: BR-MC marked from the dark line on the sand parallel to the water line on the beach to the edge of grass growth on the berm.
Foreshore: MR-TC from the dark line on the sand parallel to the water line down to the edge of water marked by darker colored sand next to the water.
Berm: BR-ML consisting of mound of sand with vegetation growth.
Berm crest: ML the top or highest point of the berm.
Dunes: The mound of sand with vegetation growth.
