            In computer networking the term “cluster” is used generally to refer to an amount of different performances of interacted computing resources. Normally, a cluster incorporates the resources of various computing machines mutually for same function. A “failover cluster” is a collection of independent PCs that operate collectively to enhance the accessibility of functions and examinations. The clustered servers are known as nodes are linked by physical cables and software. If a single cluster node fails, a different node starts to deliver service due to which it is called a process of failover (Xu & Wunsch, 2008).

Clustering SAN technology:

            A Storage Area Network (SAN) is also operated with a failover cluster, so that all the hard disk or the storage devices that are being used in the company for interact as computers working together produce better outputs. The clustering in Storage Area Network is quite efficient as SAN due to clusters operates and functions like a high speed LAN network and provide compatibility of storing space like drivers, hardware and software used for the storage which are similar in temperament with failover clusters to improve speed (Judd, 2006).

Upgrading of failover clusters need SAN to react properly to particular SCSI commands should follow the SCSI Primary Commands-3 (SPC-3). In short, the storage must support the Persistent Reservations as mentioned in the SPC-3 standard.
